we had couple of warm ( - degree) days with abundant sunshine, and the snow and ice are gone. yesterday was fantastic - mildly muddy, work-outdoors-in-a-tshirt weather. i (maggie) tried my hand at pruning some of our fruit trees. i have no idea what i was doing; i hope the poor trees forgive me!
the other interesting thing was this: we could literally see the plants growing greener as the day went on. a preliminary garden inspection showed that the parsley, thyme, mountain mint, sage, and of course weeds (dandelions in particular) were greening up. a few hours later, we swore they were even...

i'm systematically cutting it all back - to the ground - and using it in smuge, distillation, and drying it. the plants will be smaller, bushier, healthier and much more prolific next year. i'm also giving away bags and bags of it, so if anyone in the central iowa area needs mint....just stop by the
farm. here's a rare shot - both donna and her doggie monk (aptly named after the nerotic detective on the tv show) are camera shy - to get a picture of the of them together is a real treat!...

(they were not happy about it). maggie and donna did a ton of planting - here is one of maggie's lasagna beds in progress. john did some mowing :) and the lovely michelle white, of beautiful people organic salon, came out and gave us all wonderful pedicures.
